These aquatic hitchickers are transported to inland lakes via boats and trailers from an affected lake. Depending on the humidity in your area these mussels can thrive out of the water anywhere from 7 to 30 days. Therefore inspecting and cleaning your boat and trailer is essential. The infants of these mussels feel like grains of sand on your boat or trailer.
